I have to qualify my initial post a bit. I had forgotten that I had decided to use a X-Window session for my Kubuntu 22.04 computer, for $reasons.
I just tried the same problem with the (default) Wayland session, and it's a bit better. Not that Palemoon don't hang - it does - but this is not hogging the whole graphical session anymore, since it's only XWayland that is burning Cpu cycles, so the rest of the Linux software and the general session can use the remaining cores without problem.
