I only know Mate as a distribution of Ubuntu

Ubuntu is not the only distro that ships/is available with Mate. So does Debian, Devuan, Mint, etc. So your OS is Ubuntu, and Mate is your desktop environment. I also use Mate as the desktop environment, but my OS is Devuan.

Thus, we all know now that the relevant Mate is the one distributed for Ubuntu. And it is not the one for all the other distros I don't know.

Now, what is the answer?
